Test and dependability (3V1Ü)

(G. Kemnitz)

IT systems automate intellectual tasks: operational procedures, the control of processes and machines, design tasks, … A prerequisite for their use – and usually the most expensive feature of the product – is sufficient dependability.
The key to this lies in carrying out checks and rectifying any shortcomings identified in the process at three levels:
  • during design and manufacture (fault prevention),
  • prior to deployment and during maintenance (fault rectification) and
  • during operation (fault tolerance, damage prevention).
The type and scope of the tests carried out play a key role in this. The content and learning objectives of the lecture are models for describing dependability and the measures for ensuring the dependability of IT systems comprising hardware and software: checks, tests, troubleshooting, …

Target audience: Master’s students in Computer Science and those interested from other degree programmes
